Q. Where is the server hosted and who manages this system?
A. The server is physically located within a SickKids datacenter and is
managed by SickKids IT department.
Q. Can I use this service to send PHIPA or EPHI data? (Personal
Health Information Protection Act)
A. Yes
Q. Is the data on this system backed up?
A. No
Q. Is the data I send via the Secure File Transfer Service secure?
A. Yes, we use 256 Bit SSL Encryption during the transportation of the data
to and from the server. Also the data is encrypted at rest on our server.
Q. Is the site available for anyone to use?
A. No, this system is for employees of SickKids. Non-SickKids Partners’
employees can use the system only if they are invited to use it and can only
send files to people who work at SickKids.
Q. Are there any limits on the types of files we can send via the Secure File
Transfer Service?
A. No, but this system is for work-related file transfers only; any misuse
will result in account suspension. Any copyrighted software, music, movies or
other data can't be sent via the Secure File Transfer Service unless you have
permission to do so from the original content owner.
Q. When I send someone a files do they get sent as an attachment in the
email?
A. No, the recipient gets an email with a link to download the file
Q. The original file I sent via Secure File Transfer got deleted, lost, or
corrupted on my computer. Can you recover the file for me?
A. No, files are automatically deleted from the system after 7 days.
Q. Do you keep logs of all the files sent via this system?
A. Yes, every transaction on the system is logged.
Q. How do I get a Secure File Transfer Service account?
A. To get a Secure File Transfer Account , you need
to contact the Sickkids Help Desk and go through
the approval process.
Q. Why does an external recipient have to register?
A. External recipients have to register for the first time so they can access
the download site and provide accountability.
Q. What version of Java is required?
A. Java version 1.5.2 or greater is required
Q. How do I resend my activation code?
A. Go to https://sickkidssft.sickkids.ca/bds/ResendActivation.do
Q. I am researcher, how do I get a Secure File Transfer Account?
A. Researchers should contact their research Help Desk (ext.305728) to get
access to their Secure File Transfer account.
Q. What username and password do I use?
A. Sickkids employees should use their domain
account and password, external users will user there email address and the
password they created. Accounts are subject to approval.
Q. Who can receive files?
A. Anyone with a valid email account can receive files.
Q. Will my account expire?
A. Accounts will not expire if it has not been used within two years.
Q. How long will my files stay on the Secure File Transfer server?
A. All files will stay on the system for no more than seven days.
Q. Why will files be removed after seven days?
A. This system is designed to transfer data not store data.
Q. What is the difference between a file transfer system and a file
sharing system?
A. File transfer system is only used to transfer files, while a file
sharing system can be used to store data.
Q. How do I allow an external recipient to send me files?
A. To allow external recipient to send files, the sender will have to create
an express delivery and select Allow secure reply to all .
Q. I forgot my password.
A.If you use the Sickkids
windows login , your login and password will be the
same for the Secure File Transfer system. If you use your email as your
login, to reset your password click on this link and following the
instructions https://sickkidssft.sickkids.ca/bds/ForgotPassword.do
Q. How do I send multiples files ?
A. To send multiples files, create a folder on your desktop and place all the
files you want to upload in the folder you just created.
Right click on the folder, select the menu option send to then
select compressed zipped folder. This option will create a
compressed files of folder and files you want to upload.
